Book about natural hazards presented in Chisinau
A book about the causes, consequences, types and methods of preventing natural hazards titled “Origin of natural hazards and ways of reducing their destructive impact on society and the environment” was launched in Chisinau on March 18, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the study, the number of natural hazards rises every year. Currently, there are recorded up to ten natural hazards a year, as against one hazard in three years earlier.
Author of the study, former Minister of the Environment Constantin Mihailescu said that Moldova and the entire Black Sea region are exposed to the risk of facing natural hazards. During the last few years, Moldova has been more often affected by floods, landslides, drought and frost. At the same time, the people by their acts intensify the effects of natural hazards and cause new phenomena.
Constantin Mihailescu mentioned the high level of pesticides in lakes and rivers and the pouring out of chemical waste. He said that the magnetic field generated by solar eruptions contributes to the appearance of natural hazards.
Attending the launch, academician Ion Dediu said the book will serve as a guide for students of geography faculties and as an useful instrument for researchers and the interested people.
