Booths situated near Romanian Consulate will be relocated
The xerox, photo and other booths set up near the Romanian Consulate on Grigore Ureche St will be relocated to Albisoara St. Benches with umbrellas will be placed along the Consulate's fence so that the queuing up visitors feel more comfortable. The Embassy of Romania asked the Moldovan authorities to help solve this problem after the mass media reported on the situation in the area adjoining the Consulate in a partial way, as the Embassy said, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference held at the Ministry of the Interior on July 1, Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau Gabriel Pistol said some of the mass media institutions covered the situation near the Consulate erroneously, without asking the Embassy's opinion. He stated there are persons who profit from the difficult situation as regards the issuing of visas, but the Consulate's employees are very responsible and work by 12 hours a day to issue visas to 700-750 citizens. These visas, which are free for the Moldovan citizens, cost Romania about €4 million a year.
“A part of the Moldovan press covered this effort in a misleading way. We had to demand the right to reply. Beside the negative impact on the image, such actions lead to a lower working capacity of the Consulate,” said Gabriel Pistol.
A joint meeting involving representatives of responsible institutions was held on June 30 to discuss the given issue. A number of decisions were reached to remedy the situation. Mihai Cibotaru, division head at the Ministry of the Interior, said eight booths have been already removed. The traffic police unblocked the area and set up road signs, while the conscript soldiers working in the area will be replaced with soldiers employed on contract basis. Mihai Cibotaru added the police investigated a number of persons who provide services near the Consulate and the inquiries go on.
