Two trucks loaded with nonferrous scrap metal were stopped on the Chisinau – Hancesti road. These were driven by citizens of Ukraine and Moldova who, according to the police, intended to smuggle the metals to Ukraine, IPN reports.

During searches, there were found and seized 700,000 lei, 115,000 hryvnas, US$44,000 and over €10,000 as well as about 3 tonnes of nonferrous scrap metal and about 400 liters of chemical preparations for agriculture, with the latter being smuggled from Ukraine.

The police arrested two citizens of Ukraine and two Moldovans aged between 26 and 53, one of whom is an employee of the Border Police. These face three to ten years behind bars.
