Border Police conducts investigations on the green area and intensifies the checks at the state border crossing, both on the Moldovan-Ukrainian segment and on the Romanian one, in connection with the situation concerning the African swine fever in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
Steps are taken to prevent the introduction of pigs and boars in Moldova, but also to detect meat, products and by-products of animal origin, which are prohibited, in the luggage of travellers, with their confiscation and subsequent destruction, a Border Police press release mentions.
At the same time, grazing pigs will be prohibited at a less than 500-meters distance from the border.
On the territory of the Republic of Moldova there are 21 active outbreaks of African swine fever, including two in wild boars. 331 pigs have been killed in all. In the last weeks there has been an explosion of outbreaks of African swine fever. 37 outbreaks were reported in Ukraine. Other 950 active outbreaks in domestic pigs and 1845 cases in wild boars, in Romania.
