A man from Briceni district was imprisoned for five months for driving under the influence of alcohol. The sentence was issued by the district court, which banned the man from driving for a two year period.

A General Prosecutor's Office press release said that the man is 31 years old and has previously been convicted twice for drunk driving. For his previous violation, which occurred a year and a half ago, he was fined 16 thousand lei and was banned from driving for a period of time.

Prosecutors said that they will appeal the sentence to the Bălți Court of Appeal. The first court ordered the man to serve the sentence in an open jail, while prosecutors will request detention in a semi-closed penitentiary, where the convicts are under permanent supervision, "given that he committed the violation intentionally and repeatedly".
