The program “Shaving hour” produced by Jurnal TV channel will be monitored by the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC). Such a decision was taken by the Council following a request made by the president of the Superior Council of Magistracy Victor Micu. The producers of the program are accused of committing a number of violations and of harming the dignity of persons mentioned in the program, IPN reports.
In an edition of the program, reference was made to the family of Victor Micu. It was suggested that Micu’s child is bothered by the fact that his father is corrupt. BCC member Dragos Vicol said that he saw the given sequence and was horrified by the ‘unprecedented attack’ on Victor Micu. The legislation imposes respect for the private and family life and the TV channels’ arguments that it has the right to free expression in this case cannot justify the ‘harassment of a person’.
Council member Mariana Onceanu Hadarca said that when a person becomes public servant, this assumes the risk of being criticized. According to the generally accepted principles, the journalists have the right to attack, shock and even exaggerate. Those who feel affected can go to court.
Member Iurie Colesnic believes the journalists should criticize the area of activity, not the person who holds the post.
BCC chairman Dinu Ciocan said that this is not the first time that the Council is informed about violations in this program. The Council can only take cognizance of the application of Victor Micu. But the given program will be monitored so as to see if it respects the Broadcaster’s Code of Conduct and other legal provisions. The BCC will issue Jurnal TV with a requisition about the legal aspects that the producers of “Shaving hour” do not fully meet.
