Bucuria fined over 1.8 million lei

The joint stock company Bucuria was fined over 1.8 million lei for unfair competition. The company was accused of illegally copying the packaging of the confectionery products “MU” and “PARKUR” which belong to a rival enterprise, IPN reports.

“The investigation was initiated in 2022, following a complaint filed by foreign enterprises that manufacture similar confectionery products and their official importer in the Republic of Moldova. According to what is invoked in the complaint, the joint stock company Bucuria in the packaging of its products uses shapes and color ranges similar to those of plaintiffs’ products,” reads a press release.

Following the investigation, the Competition Council found that JSC Bucuria violated Article 19 of the Competition Law, which prohibits any actions or deeds that can create confusion with regard to the company, products or economic activity of a competitor.

Also, according to the adopted decision, the company was ordered to cease the unfair competition actions found and to withdraw the confectionery products “MU” and “PARKUR” from the market. The decision can be appealed to the specialized court within 30 days.
