The cab of a train running on the Chisinau – Ocnita train started to burn near Falesti town in the evening of March 31. A part of the passengers of the train returned the tickets, while others continued the trip by two minibuses.
The cab was detached from the rest of the railcars so as to prevent the fire from spreading. The fire was localized in about 30 minutes. It destroyed only the engine section. It is presumed that the fire started as a result of a technical glitch, press officer of the Civic Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcan has told IPN.
Nobody was hurt. Half of those 70 passengers, who got on the train at the station in Falesti, returned the tickets and went back. Others went in an organized way by two minibuses up to Balti, from where they continued the road to Ocnita by train. Until the two minibuses arrived, the passengers, who included children, were served tea and snacks.
Press officer of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure Irina Gasca said Minister Vasile Botnari ordered constituting a commission that would investigate the circumstances of this case and would assess the damage caused by the fire. The cab was removed from the railroad tracks and traffic is unhindered.
