Cabinet ratifies social security agreement with Latvia

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the draft law to ratify the social security agreement between Moldova and Latvia, which was signed in Brussels on December 11, 2023, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection said that after the agreement takes effect, the insured persons will be able to get a pension no matter where they reside and each state will apply the national legislation in the field, the pension being transferred monthly to beneficiaries on the territory of the state where they reside.

The Republic of Moldova has signed international social security agreements based on proportionality principles with 17 states, namely Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Austria, Estonia, Czechia, Poland, Hungary, Belgium, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, the Hellenic Republic, the Italian Republic, and Kingdom of Spain. The agreement with the Kingdom of Spain has yet to be ratified by the Spanish Parliament.
