A group of nongovernmental organizations that form part of the Anticorruption Alliance request to vote the packages of law on integrity in the public and private sectors as a matter of urgency. A public call to this effect was made to Parliament and its legal commission on appointments and immunities and the commission on national security, defense and public order, IPN reports.
“Moldova is at the stage of building an integrity system in the public and private sectors as corruption fighting alone is insufficient when the integrity system offers greater efficiency, especially by preventing high-level and systemic corruption al lower financial costs,” said the NGOs.
The signatories demand that the Law on the Constitution of the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency, which was submitted to Parliament on December 15, 2016, should be passed in the second reading. They also ask to adopt the Integrity Law that was adopted in the first reading on July 28, 2016. This is aimed at cultivating public integrity and zero tolerance to corruption inside public entities.
In the same connection, the NGOs insistently request the decision makers to immediately adopt the National Anticorruption Strategy for 2017-2020, which is a strategic document aimed at fighting corruption at national and sector levels, and to adopt the Law on Integrity Warnings and Warning Persons’ Protection, which is required by the international treaties to which Moldova is a party.
The signatories of the call are: Resource Center for Human Rights; Agency for Regional Development “Habitat”, “Pro Marshall” Center of Moldova, INFONET Alliance, Journalists Union of Moldova, Student Alliance of Moldova, Student National Anticorruption Center, Youth Force of Moldova, Balti University Legal Clinic, Civic Education Institute and the Public Chamber of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia “Gagauz Eri”.
