Campaign to prevent driving under the influence

Patrolling inspectors will distribute leaflets with information about the dangers of driving under the influence to motorists whom they will stop. The campaign “Don’t allow alcohol to lead you! Someone dear is waiting for you at home” was initiated by the Ministry of Justice in concert with the National Probation Inspectorate and the National Patrolling Inspectorate of the General Police Inspectorate, IPN reports.

Attending the campaign launch, Deputy Minister of Justice Anatolie Munteanu reminded that the administrative fines for driving under the influence reach 25,000 lei, while the criminal ones 67,500. The campaign lays emphasis on prevention and acknowledgement of the dangers of driving under the influence.

According to the National Patrolling Inspectorate, 5,710 cases of driving under the influence were recorded in 2016. There were imposed 1,945 administrative penalties and 3,765 criminal punishments.

The data of the Probation Service show over 4,600 persons have been banned from driving. Driving under the influence was the reason in each fourth case.

The campaign “Don’t allow alcohol to lead you! Someone dear is waiting for you at home” is logistically and financially supported by the European Union.
