CCCEC reacts to allegations against its officers

The press service of the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption (CCCEC) issued a press release in reaction to allegations made by a some lawyers on a TV program that CCCEC officers tried to obtain illegal income. The institution denounces such claims as “cynicism, lack of professional ethics and intentional denigration of officers on a mission”. On Tuesday, at a press conference, the Center’s representatives announced that an officer had been injured in a shootout on Monday evening, while performing a search in a case of smuggling. In a press release issued a few hours later, the CCCEC informed that its officers’ actions had been legal and authorized by the investigative judge. The search mission started at 9 PM. None of the officers was under the influence. All were properly equipped and identified themselves as CCCEC officers before entering and committed no abuse through their intervention. The Center confirmed that it had arrested an officer of the Border Guards Service, accused of complicity to smuggling. He is currently detained in the CCCEC's remand facility alongside 9 other persons arrested in the same case. The Center is baffled at the release of the person who shot at the CCCEC officer. The latter is hospitalized with a head injury and his condition is critical. According to an earlier statement issued by the Border Guards Service, Victor Busuioc from Tudora village, Stefan Voda, called the border guards’ outpost at 10.05 PM, on April 11, saying that unknown masked persons entered his house and opened fire. The chief of the outpost went there. Near Busuioc’s house, there were several CCCEC workers and the district police officer. As a result of the circumstances, the CCCEC officers requested two of the Border Guards Service officers to be heard as witnesses.
