The Central Election Commission (CEC) aims to carry out a feasibility study on the introduction of the electronic distance voting. This is provided in the Commission’s plan of action for 2016 that was approved on February 9, IPN reports.
According to the CEC chairman Iurie Ciocan, the institution intends to implement a pilot distance voting project in the ordinary elections of 2018. “This will be a project to test the information systems and to determine the capacities and potential of the electronic systems,” he stated.
Another objective stipulated in the plan of action is to ensure the accessibility of the persons with disabilities to the electoral process. “We will carry out a study on the development and implementation of efficient mechanisms for including the persons with disabilities in the electoral process,” stated Iurie Ciocan, noting that they also plan to perform by an audit at each electoral office of the country.
The CEC’s plan of action for 2016 envisions ensuring of transparency in party and campaign funding. “For the first time in the activity of the CEC, the parties will present financing reports once in six years. By March 31 each year, they will also have to present a general report,” stated Iurie Ciocan.
In 2016, the Commission will also develop partnerships with organizations of the Moldovan diaspora so as to preliminarily register the voters from outside the country.
