From April 8 to June 20, 1.623 million households and 2.377 million people were processed during the ongoing national census. In more than 300 localities, census taking is practically completed, with final verifications underway, National Statistics Bureau director Oleg Cara told a press briefing Friday.
In most districts of the country the completion level of the process is over 96%. The exception is Chisinau Municipality, where the process is only 92% completed.
The process is due to end on July 7. “The population left out of the census for one reason or another is asked to call the green line at 080080024, toll-free. Also, an online form is published on the NBS website to submit contact information”, said Oleg Cara.
The official reiterated that participation in the census is mandatory, and sanctions may be imposed for refusal or evasion. The law says that all residents of the country are to participate in the census, regardless of citizenship. If a person has been in the country in the past 12 months, they have to participate to ensure full coverage.
The national census is a large-scale statistical activity that takes place once every 10 years, being part of the world rounds of censuses, carried out in accordance with international recommendations.
