Central park of Chisinau becomes exhibition area
The Public Garden “Stephan the Great” in Chisinau was transformed into an area for exhibiting journalistic materials centering in children. The exhibit “Mass media and children’s rights” forms part of the program of activities dedicated to World Press Freedom Day, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Media outlets put up tents near the main fountain of the park and distributed newspapers and journals with articles about children to passersby free of charge.
On the same occasion, the Journalistic Investigations Center (CIN) issued a statement on the protection of children’s rights. Twenty media outlets have subscribed to it so far.
CIN president Cornelia Cozonac said that the eight commitments included in the statement define the deontological norms and other legal rules that the journalists must respect. “All the aspects incorporated in this statement are known by the journalists, but this document will remind about the principle of the journalists’ responsibility when writing about children,” she stated.
The statement remains open for signing. It is available on the official websites of the CIN and UNICEF Moldova.
World Press Freedom Day is marked on May 3. This year, activities on this occasion will be carried out throughout May.
