Ceslav Panico is the new ombudsman. He was appointed by Parliament by the votes of 57 PAS MPs. He reached the final of the competition together with Alexandru Zubco, for whom 21 MPs of the BCS voted in Parliament, IPN reports.
Ceslav Panico said there are a number of international conventions and treaties that haven’t been yet ratified by the Republic of Moldova. Together with civil society, with the academic community and the elected officials, these documents will be examined and proposed for adoption. He will also formulate proposals to improve the legislation.
The ombudsperson’s term in office is of seven years.
The post of ombudsperson fell vacant on December 9, 2021, after the MPs accepted the resignation tendered by Natalia Moloșag.
