Chisinau Court of Appeals rules against Moldovagaz

The Chisinau Court of Appeals rejected Moldovagaz’s application to oblige the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) to issue a license allowing supplying natural gas at unregulated tariffs, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the ANRE, such a license would allow SA Moldovagaz, which is the only importer of natural gas in Moldova, to resell natural gas to other suppliers, including state-run companies, at prices that will not be regulated by the Agency. This will lead to a rise in the costs that will be included in the tariff. Wanting to obtain a license for the supply of natural gas at unregulated tariffs, SA Moldovagaz filed an application to the Chisinau Court of Appeals and the Rascani Court. Four months ago, the ANRE asked closing this case, arguing it is not within the Rascani Court’s competence to examine such applications. At the start of last year, SA Moldovagaz asked the ANRE to issue it with a license allowing supplying natural gas at unregulated tariffs, but its request was rejected for the reason that the company works on an uncompetitive market.
