All the district head’s offices of Chisinau will organize commemoration meals for the veterans of World War II on May 9. The participants in the war will receive on this occasion by a lump sum of 600 lei, while the widows by 100 lei less, the head of the Social-Humanitarian and Interethnic Relations Division Nina Stratulat has told Info-Prim Neo. Flowers will be laid and a meeting will be staged the same day at the Memorial Complex “Eternity”. There will be given a festive concert and meetings with veterans will be held in schools and kindergartens. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca will give a speech to congratulate all those who fought the war, while the veterans will be invited to the Chisinau City Hall. According to the City Hall, there are 792 World War II veterans in Chisinau. World War II in Europe ended on May 8, 1945, when Nazi Germany capitulated unconditionally. The time 23.01, Central Europe time, was indicated in the capitulation document. By Moscow time, it took effect on May 9 and thus victory over fascism is marked on this day. In Asia the war continued until Japan surrendered on August 15.
