Chisinau minibus route managers say they will comply with new regulations
The new transportation regulations approved by the Chisinau administration obliges the minibus drivers to have nice appearance, do not smoke while driving and speak respectfully to the passengers. The document bans the drivers from stopping at other places than stations and from turning on the radio.
Veaceslav Tarna, the head of the Public Transport and Communications Division, told Info-Prim Neo that the regulations were approved after the Division received a large number of complaints from passengers.
More than 300 letters came to the Division lately.
If the minibus drivers do not comply with the new regulations, they will not be allowed to work, while the Chisinau City Hall could terminate the contract signed with the route managers, Veaceslav Tarna said.
The minibus route managers say they accept partially the new regulations and admit that the passengers complain about the inappropriate behavior of the drivers. “These measures will help us bring things in order,” said manager Tatiana Popova. Another route manager, Sergiu Moghilda welcomed the new regulations, saying there are no reasons for the drivers not to comply with them.
The new rules aimed at ensuring the quality and discipline in public transport were formulated by order of Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. They came into force on February 25. However, the minibuses continue to stop where the passengers ask, but in most of them the music is not very loud.
