Chisinau residents will continue to receive compensations for heat
The Chisinau administration will continue to provide compensations for heat to the underprivileged groups of people even if the charges are increased and more money will have to be allocated from the municipal budget, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
About 30,000 families on monthly incomes lower than 1,450 lei per member are entitled to compensations for heat in Chisinau. The compensations represent 40% of the heating bill.
According to the mayor, not the higher charges, but the low salaries of the population, which do not cover the basic necessities, should be a reason for concern.
In another development, Dorin Chirtoaca said a part of the recipients of compensations were included in the lists of beneficiaries unfairly. These persons declared low incomes, but in fact run businesses or use forged permits in order to receive compensations.
Earlier, Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said that after the budget is adopted, solutions will be identified to extend the categories of beneficiaries of heat compensations of 130 lei a month. The value of this benefit may also be increased.
Until now, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family has earmarked over 300 million lei for providing compensations for heat.
According to official reports, the social allowances currently make up 1.3% of the GDP.
