Chisinau water utility workers help to clean up Bic banks

Over 500 workers from the water utility Apa-Canal Chisinau ACC, wielding brooms, shovels, racks and plastic bags, participated in a clean-up on the banks of the Bic River between the bridges Orhei and Ismail, Info-Prim Neo reports. Raisa Cecan, department head at ACC, stated that such clean-up efforts are mostly welcome and they should be held throughout the country. She stressed that it's important to maintain the area clean after it's tidied up. “A clean place is not where you tidy up but where you don't litter. I encourage everyone to respect cleanliness in the city and anywhere else”, said Raisa Cecan Dmitri, an ACC engineer, said the workers found the valley of the Bic River in a terrible state. The man suggests that the bulk of the mess comes from the companies located near the river, with tons of garbage being accumulated under their fences. “It's everyone's obligation to keep the area clean. There are garbage bins, they should go there to dispose of their waste, and not on the street. They have transformed the city into a landfill, I feel shame for such people”, said the man. To exemplify how littered the Bic valley is, Alexandru Visnevcshi, the deputy head of the ACC's wastewater treatment plant, said that the workers gathered several loads of tractor from a small portion in just one hour. The most difficult was to collect the plastic bottles stuck in the branches on the river's surface. The cleanup is part of the “Hai, Chisinau” campaign organized by the City Hall. The campaign will culminate with a large-scale action on March 31.
