The Chisinau Zoo will get a pond which will have the cleanest water in the whole of the Municipality, and the adjacent space will be transformed into an oasis simulating the famous Andalusian gardens in Spain. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, head of the Zoo Alexei Hantatuc stated that zoo territory used to have a pond in the 1970's. As time passed by the lake degraded into a puddle, because of the mud that is not evacuated. Recent tests shows that the water from the pond's spring is the cleanest source of water in Chisinau. The institution's board developed a project for restoring the lake. “The spring is very strong, with a water discharge of 80 tons per hours. We have developed a restoration and refurbishment project for the lake and spring, and have already been knocking for 5 months on the doors of all institutions, in order to get all signatures and start the works. We are one signature away, from the Ministry of Environment, from starting the works”, stated the director. Alexei Hantatuc specified that the renovation and management works will draw investments of over 1.3 million lei from the the Municipal Budget. After being cleaned, the spring will not only allow the maintenance of the lake, but also of the lawn and greens during the summer, when the vegetation is most affected by the drought and high temperatures, says Alexei Hantatuc. Following the example of the Andalusian gardens, which depict the cult of intimacy and respect towards each drop of water, the board of the Zoo intends to build several waterfalls.
