Chisinau's heating season likely to start later than scheduled

Chisinau's major heat supplier Termocom SA is on the verge of a crisis, which is likely to putt off the date when radiators will warm up in Chisinau's apartments, Termocom's commercial manager Mihai Arusoi told a City Council's meeting on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Arusoi, the crisis will become imminent if the City Hall fails to pay off the debt owed to Termocom until October 10. He also dismissed reports that the supplier refused to accept an installment arrangement for debt repayment. “We accept, but not later than on October 10. This means at least 15-20 million lei daily”, said Arusoi. “The actual price of the thermal energy, as calculated by Termocom and approved by the Energy Regulator (ANRE), is 842.82 lei per G-calorie. It could have topped 900 lei, had it not been for ANRE”, Arusoi added. The head of the municipal Economy and Reform Division, Mihaela Iacob, informed the City Council that the price of heating, as computed by municipal agencies, was 723.84 lei. But taking into account all possible economies, it would not exceed 612 lei. In reply to Arusoi's claims, Finance Department Deputy Chief Valentina Vazdautan said paying off the debt until October 11 would be an insurmountable task: “Focusing all attention on this problem means the City Hall should not spend any money in other directions, which is impossible”. The debt owed by the municipality to the heat supplier amounts to 197 million lei, of which 160 million lei represent the heritage left by the previous city administration. As a rule, the heating season in Chisinau starts in the second half of October.
