After standing trial for exerting undue pressure and obstructing media activities one year ago, the mayor of Cimiseni village, Criuleni district, is now facing new charges. This time the mayor will appear in court together with his wife on charges of large-scale fraud and abuse of authority, the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) said in a press release.

In particular, the mayor is accused that, in February 2013, he convinced a man to pay him and his wife 525,000 lei in several installments on the pretense that they would help the man acquire a land plot to extract sand and other minerals.

As part of the proceedings, the prosecutors seized two cars belonging to the accused, who are forbidden from leaving the country. The PGO finalized the prosecution and forwarded the case to be judged by the Riscani District Court.
