Civil Aeronautic Authority entrusted with new tasks

The duty of implementing the Government’s policies on civil aviation will be transferred from the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure to the Civil Aeronautic Authority that will be directly controlled by the executive. But the Ministry will continue to work out the given policies and to manage the public patrimony in this field. Relevant amendments to a number of legal acts were approved by the Government last week, IPN reports.

The changes are aimed at eliminating the institutional conflict of interest in the air transport sector. Currently, the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure is the superior institution that manages the Civil Aeronautic Authority. On the other hand, it is the founder of the state-run airline Air Moldova, which can be penalized by the Civil Aeronautic Authority if it violates the flight safety and passenger rights protection regulations.

The informative note to the bills with amendments says the exclusion of the institutional conflict of interest will help develop free competition on the air transportation services market.
