Civil society demands investigating Papuc and Botnari as accomplices in maltreating young people
Jurists, lawyers and opinion leaders say the prosecutors should investigate former Minister of the Interior Gheorghe Papuc and former General Police Commissioner of Chisinau Vladimir Botnari as suspects and accomplices in maltreating and detaining young people on April 7, 2009.
The public association Promo-Lex suggests several methods of bringing these persons to trial, classifying them into categories, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on April 1, Doina Ioana Straisteanu, jurist at Promo-Lex, said the prosecutors examine the legal cases opened over the April events, but they do not investigate the police officers who arrested and beat young people as suspects in these cases.
Doina Ioana Straisteanu also said the policemen, heads of remand centers, district commissioners and the prosecutors who were at police commissariats those days should apologize to the young people who were detained but not maltreated, for the illegalities committed. She added that these persons should be awarded damages.
