The 12th edition of the ClassFest International Festival of Theater and Film Schools, which is devoted to the art of motion picture, will take place in Chisinau on November 20-24. The event this year involves participants from nine countries and the films will be in the focus, IPN reports.

Young filmmakers will present recently made films that state personal views on the crises caused by the war, on humanitarian, social, political and cultural issues.

Monica Babuc, director of the Romanian Cultural Institute, said that their institution at the current edition supports the presence of two students and a professor of Ion Luca Caragiale National University of Theater and Cinematography of Bucharest. The students will present their cinematographic works, while professor Ioana Grigore will give a masterclass to students of the Department of Cinematography.

Victoria Melnic, rector of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, called on the students to be courageous, to look for the new and the unique. “The current students are tomorrow’s future,” said the rector, who voiced hope that the halls will be full and the students will surprise.

Boris Cremene, adviser to the minister of culture, said the festival is important not only for students and teachers, but also for senior artists, being as a source of inspiration during burnout.

Vlad Druc, head of the Multimedia Department of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, noted that the festival contributes to establishing contacts and to broadening horizons.

Over 70 feature films, documentaries and animation movies will be shown during the festival, accompanied by discussions. The participants in the festival will be involved in workshops coordinated by filmmakers form Romania and Germany.

The event is opened at 6:30 p.m. on November 20 at the ARTCOR Creative Industries Center.

The ClassFest Festival is organized primarily with support from the Swiss Cooperation Office and the Ministry of Culture.
