Cleanup campaign begins in Chisinau municipality
The Chisinau administration launched the spring cleanup campaign. “This does not mean that the election campaign has started. It is a tradition to carry out cleaning works before Easter,” said Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca. The works are to be completed by April 20, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The municipal authorities plan to clean all the streets, quarters, green areas and the areas near the education institutions, hospitals, health centers and cemeteries. The unauthorized waste dumps will be removed.
The Chisinau City Hall ordered that rubbish bins be set up inside all the residential areas. There will be installed another 267 bins and repaired the waste collection rooms and basement doors of apartment buildings. The minibus termini will be also cleaned. There will be set up 95 road signs.
The companies will have to clean the areas near their head offices. Students will plant fruit-bearing trees.
The municipal authorities warn that those who will throw litter over the window will be penalized.
“We intended to start the cleanup campaign on March 1, but the weather did not permit,” Dorin Chirtoaca said.
More than 1,000 workers will be involved in the cleanup campaign. Earlier, civil society pledged to engage in the campaign through the project “Come on, Moldova”. The initiators of the project aim to daily collect about 10,000 tonnes of garbage in Chisinau with the help of volunteers.
