A member of the “Sfantul Ilie” church, from Drochia, wants His Holiness Vladimir to apologize in public for the way His Holiness has treated him. Alexei Popov stated in a press conference on Tuesday that he declared a hunger strike in front of the Metropolitan Church of Moldova, last week, asking His Holiness to gather all the priests and discuss the initiation of a referendum regarding the abolition of the Law on equality of chances, reports Info-Prim Neo.
Alexei Popov mentioned that, at the beginning of July, he addressed a letter to the Moldovan Metropolitan Church in which he demanded to start discussions on the referendum. Because he did not receive an answer, on July 20 he started his protest in front of the Metropolitan Church. The youth claims that priests and servants of the Metropolitan Church have threatened him with physical aggression, lest he takes his tent and leaves. On June 22, says the cleric, several police officers came and took him to a forest in Drochia.
Alexei Popov retells how they kept him in an animal farm for 24 hours, and then brought him back to the Metropolitan Church. The cleric claims that he was abducted from the Metropolitan Church Square, because the Synod of the Metropolitan Church took place on June 22. The young man is convinced that it was His Holiness’ order, so that the members of the Synod do not see the protest. He adds that this kind of behavior is completely inappropriate, and His Holiness must apologize. Otherwise, Alexei Popov threatens to sue.
President of the Party “Patriotii Moldovei” Mihail Garbuz was present at the press conference, and said that the cleric will receive all the juridical assistance necessary. According to Mihail Garbuz, mischievous acts, which do not belong in a democratic country, took place.
The Law on equality of chances passed despite protests from some representatives of the Orthodox Church, who opposed this Law, saying that it promotes debauchery and violates traditional Christian values.
