The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) procured an additional number of almost 800 cataract surgeries. In 2024, over 141 million lei was earmarked for cataract surgeries. Such operations are accessible to insured persons who have medical indications and are on the waiting list. Currently, the waiting time for these surgeries is one year, IPN reports.

The average cost of a cataract surgery is around 11,500 lei. This money covers the expenses for surgery, treatment, examinations, consultations, medicines, accommodation and food in the hospital. The insured patient does not have to pay for anything.

For the extra surgeries, the CNAM is to conclude additional agreements with medical service providers.
