Commemorative plaques to academicians Ilie Untila and Nicolae Filipp

A commemorative plaque to Ilie Untila will be installed on the facade of the building located at 80 M. Kogalniceanu, where the academician, who was a specialist in applicative genetics, seminology and phytotechny, lived, Info-Prim Neo reports. Ilie Untila held 12 invention patents on homologous plants and was the author of 230 scientific works, including the catalog of the world winter wheat collection. He headed the Scientific Practical Center “Selectia”, while in 1993-2000 had worked as coordinating academician at the Academy of Sciences' Agricultural Sciences Division. He was given the state awards of Moldova and Ukraine. In 1995, Ilie Untila was conferred the Order of the Republic. The costs of making and placing the plaque will be covered by the academician's family. By another decision, the Government allowed installing a commemorative plaque on the building situated at 12 Independentei St in Balti, where the specialist in radiophysics Nicolae Filipp lived. The habilitate doctor had been the rector of the Balti-based State University during two decades. Nicolae Filipp was included in the bibliographic collection of 2,000 famous persons of the 20th century issued by the International Biographical Center in Cambridge, England. He was awarded the Order of Labor Glory and the Order of the Republic. The costs will be covered with money from the Balti budget. The proposal was submitted by the Balti Municipal Council.
