Commission for declaring privatized area as utility of national interest

The privatized area of the building situated at 16 Mitropolit Banulescu Bodoni St may be declared public utility of national interest. The Government instituted a commission for examining the situation, which will be headed by Deputy Minister of Culture Gheorghe Postica, IPN reports.

Minister of Culture Monica Babuc explained that the given area is a component part of the National History Museum, which is a national historical monument. The 47% of the area of the building located on Bodoni St was privatized illegally and was afterward sold to a limited liability company. The Ministry offered the company to take part in the restoration of the building, but the firm refused to.

“In such conditions, the created commission is to identify justificatory elements for declaring the privatized area utility of national interest,” said the minister. If this thing happens, after the restoration the building will be turned into a Museum for Victims of Deportation and Political Repression.
