Compensated medicines will be prescribed for two months' treatment

The Government Tuesday approved amendments to the regulations concerning the provision of compensated medications, allowing that the given drugs are prescribed for two months of treatment. Until present, the compensated medicines were prescribed for at most one month of treatment, Info-Prim Neo reports. “From now on, the patients will not go so often to the family doctor for prescriptions for compensated medications,” said Deputy Minister of Health Mircea Buga. The state has covered the cost of certain medications in Moldova since 2006. The list of compensated medicines includes drugs for arterial hypertension, gastrointestinal diseases, diseases of the respiratory apparatus and others. The list contains over 150 common international names or more than several hundreds of commercial names of drugs. The state covers half of the cost of the drugs for arterial hypertension and the full cost of medications for pregnant women and children younger than 5 and of vitamins for children and adults under 18. A sum of 80 million lei was planned in the mandatory health insurance funds for 2009 for covering the cost of medications, up 30% compared with 2008.
