Over 20 million lei will be allocated from the provisional state budget for 2016 for compensating the victims of political repression, who were later rehabilitated, for the confiscated goods that cannot be restored. Under a Government decision, the money will be distributed among 11 local public authorities that will pay the first part of the compensation to 19 victims, IPN reports.
Under the law on the rehabilitation of victims of political repression of December 8, 1992, when the value of the confiscated goods that cannot be restored exceeds 200,000 lei, the compensation can be paid in installments during three years. If the value is higher than 200,000 lei, this is paid during five years. The victims who turned 75 are paid the compensation as a lump sum.
In the same meeting, the Government decided to pay lump sums to 40 persons for building a home, purchasing a cooperative apartment or another dwelling or for repairing old homes. These were to receive the money in 2015, but didn’t get it owing to shortage of funds. A sum of 1.8 million lei is needed for the purpose.
