Composition of National Public Health Commission to be modified

The makeup of the National Extraordinary Public Health Commission will be changed. A bill to this effect was adopted by the MPs after being given a final reading, IPN reports.

Under the bill, half of the Commission members will be Cabinet members and representatives of the governmental institutions that monitor and manage states of public health emergency, while the other half will be public health specialists, representatives of the “Nicolae Testemiţanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the School of Public Health Management, directors of public health facilities involved in the fight against the pandemic (by one from each of the four levels) and also representatives of civil society and of international organizations.

The bill was drafted by the MPs of the PPPDA. According to them, the Commission’s composition is now unrepresentative as it consists of representatives of the Government and subordinate institutions, but does not include epidemiologists, virologists, people of science. The Commission currently includes only one epidemiologist who holds the post of secretary of state at the Ministry of Health and this cannot provide alone the best solutions for fighting the pandemic and the number of infections rises daily as a result.
