The participants in first Forum of Black Sea Region Winemakers,, held in Comrat on July 3-4, decided to work out a mechanism for voluntary certification of quality of wine products, IPN reports, quoting the official website of the Gagauz authorities.
In the forum, Bashkan Mihail Formuzal said the executive committee of Gagauzia intends to become involved in the setting up of the Center of Voluntary Certification of Black Sea Winemakers.
The governor noted that winemaking represents the key sector of the Gagauz economy. With a population of about 155,000 residents, Gagauzia has 10,000 hectares of vineyards.
In this connection, Mihail Formuzal stated that the holding of the first Forum of Black Sea Region Winemakers namely in Comrat is more than justified as the region is practically dependent on wine production and now meets a series of difficulties in promoting and selling this production.
The winemakers decided to continue to cooperate by promoting the wine products on the markets of the partner states, granting reciprocal concessions and defending the interests of the members of the Forum of Black Sea Region Winemakers.
The forum involved about 150 people from 10 countries.
