Conductor Cristian Spătaru named National Opera House director

Conductor and composer Cristian Spătaru is the new artistic director and permanent conductor of “Maria Bieșu” National Opera and Ballet House, IPN reports.

Cristian Spătaru noted that new and interesting projects will be implemented. “As part of my work as a conductor, I’m proud to cooperate with my new colleagues of this prestigious institution in my hometown to raise national opera and ballet even higher,” the new director posted on Facebook.

Cristian Spătaru was born in 1993 in Chisinau, in the Republic of Moldova. He first graduated in Composition, then Orchestral Conducting and Choral Conducting, at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria. In June 2021, he took his orchestral conducting exam. On April 1, 2022, he made his debut as an opera conductor at the Romanian National Opera House in Cluj-Napoca, and in March 2023 he made his debut as a ballet conductor.
