Congress of Union of Theater People does not validate election of new UNITEM president

The Congress of the Union of Theater People of Moldova did not validate the results of the election of the new president of the Theatrical Union of Moldova (UNITEM), Info-Prim Neo reports. On May 11, Sandu Grecu, the artistic director of “Satiricus — I. L. Caragiale” Theater, was elected to the post by 116 votes. Grecu polled by 6 votes more than his opponent Aurelian Danila, who has held this post until present. “The Congress did not validate the results of the election. We were warned by jurists to avoid a juridical confusion. Possibly, there will be held a new Congress and we will vote again,” the vice president of UNITEM Mihai Cocieru has told Info-Prim Neo. He referred to the violation of a procedure stipulated in the institutions’ statute. The Congress of UNITEM started at 11.00 and closed at 23.00. The candidates for president of UNITEM were approved at a meeting of the Union’s Senate on April 29. These were Aurelian Danila, Sandu Grecu and Gheorghe Oanta, president of the UNITEM primary organization. After long disputes at the Congress, Gheorghe Oanta withdrew his candidacy.
