Conifers did not attract wrongdoers, police

The coniferous woods located in the municipality of Chisinau have been guarded round the clock during the winter holidays. As a result, there was recorded no case of illegal cutting of conifers, Vadim Grinko, the head of the Interior Ministry’s Prevention Division has told Info-Prim Neo. According to Grinko, by two mobile groups consisting of police officers and representatives of the Ecological Inspectorate and Moldosilva Agency worked in every district of Chisinau. Besides, about 300 employees patrolled the districts and the municipality every day. Vadim Grinko said that the fines for illegal cutting coniferous trees are rather high, depending on the type of tree. “A fine can be up to 10,000 lei, according to the damaged caused.” No case of illegal cutting of conifers was reported in the country. There was only one case, when a fir tree was uprooted from the yard of a man living in Magdacesti village. The offender has not been yet identified. An investigation is under way, Vadim Grinko said. ”The coniferous woods will be anyway guarded throughout winter as the people cut the trees to heat their homes with wood,” the representative of the Interior Ministry said.
