The commission for conferring the National Award opened the contest to select the winners, which will close on August 5. The National Awards will be handed over before the Independence Day that is celebrated on August 27. Every year, the Government gives ten National Awards for important accomplishments in technology, culture, arts, and sport, which made a considerable contribution to promoting the country’s positive image at foreign level, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government.

The candidates are fielded by ministries, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, universities, creation unions, sports federations, as well as laureates of the National Award and the State Award. Those who have a National Award in science and technique, in literature, arts and architecture, the National Award or the State Award given in the period after the proclamation of Moldova’s independence cannot take part in the contest.

The files about the candidates must be submitted to the Government’s address. The National Award is 100,000 lei.

For the first time, the National Award was given in 2011, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the proclamation of Moldova’s independence.
