Corneliu Mihalache sues Broadcasting Coordination Council

Cornel Mihalache, a member of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC), sued the Council for its decision to hold a new contest to fill the vacant posts of member of the Supervisory Board of the National Public Broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova to court, Info-Prim Neo reports. “I sued the Council because it and the chairwoman of the parliamentary commission for education, culture, sport and mass media Corina Fusu violated article 56 of the Broadcasting Code,” Corneliu Mihalache said. Article 56 says that it is the Parliament that names the members of the Supervisory Board, not the parliamentary commission, Mihalache stated. “The BCC proposed six candidates to be examined by the Parliament in November, but the parliamentary commission chose no one. Corina Fusu wrote a letter to the Council, asking that a new contest be announced. I think she and the BCC, which announced a new contest, exceeded their authority,” he said. Mihalache's application was registered at the Court of Appeals on December 3. The BCC's meeting set to take place on December 3, where the results of the new contest were to be made public, did not take place as the quorum was not present. Thirty-two candidates applied for five posts of member of the nine-member Supervisory Board.
