Cosnita and Pirita residents stage protests
Inhabitants of Pirita and Cosnita villages of Dubasari district intend to protest near the peacekeeping post where a young man was shot dead in the morning of January 1, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Among the protesters will be locals and combatants of the Nistru armed conflict. According to some sources, they came together for a meeting in the morning to decide what steps to take. “We cannot ignore this incident. We cannot stay and do nothing when a person was killed,” a Pirita resident stated for Info-Prim Neo.
Sources in the Pirita mayor’s office have told Info-Prim Neo that the local Council will hold an extraordinary meeting at 3pm to discuss the January 1 incident.
A young man from Pirita was shot dead by a peacekeeper of the trilateral peacekeeping post No. 9 located in the security zone of Moldova’s Transnistrian region. He was driving a car and was traveling from Chisinau to his village. There was a passenger in the car.
The driver repeatedly ignored the peacekeepers’ request to stop, after he crashed the car into the control barrier and the traffic sign “Stop”. Therefore, the chief of a peacekeeping post fired several warning shots from his gun and then at the car. Consequently, the driver was seriously injured and was rushed to the Emergency Hospital in Chisinau, where he died several hours later.
