Costesti-Stanca Lake is overflowing 420 cubic meters per second
The heavy rainfall on Wednesday, June 23, caused massive damages in different regions of Moldova. Liliana Puscasu, press officer of the Service for Civil Protection and Exceptional Situations, told Info-Prim Neo 156 basements, 7 houses, multiple wells and 23 km of road were flooded in several villages in Criuleni district; 35 hectares of gardens were damaged.
In Fetesti, Edinet district, the strong wind damaged the roofing on homes and public buildings.
In Criva, Briceni district, the Prut River waters rose to a dangerous level and flooded 100 hectares of meadows and 250 hectares of farming lands.
The level of the Prut River rose in Sirauti, Briceni, from 1.52 to 5.78 meters.
This morning, June 25, the level of water in Costesti-Stanca reached 91.55 meters, while the overflow increased to 420 CBM per second. This is expected to cause a rise in the water level of 1.8 meters between Costesti and Ungheni, 3 meters downstream in Cantemir and 1.5 meters in the river mouth valley, between June 24 and July 12. In these circumstances, the latter region may be flooded and farmland will be damaged.
Moreover, the Dnestrovsk barrier lake overflow reached 800 CBM per second and the level of water in Nistru River might rise with 0.5-1.5 meters.
The weathermen forecast heavy rains for Friday. The amount of precipitations might reach 15-20mm in some regions. Rainfalls will continue until June 27.
