A man and his female partner were sentenced to ten and, respectively, eight years in jail for stealing money, jewels and other objects to the value of over 1 million lei from an apartment, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Last August, the two broke into the apartment when the owner, who is a train conductor, was away on a long route. The victim left the key to the apartment door to his girlfriend, who knew the female culprit. The latter stole the key and, helped by her partner, robbed the apartment and then put the key back. In order to mislead the police, the woman left several of the stolen things in the house of the victim’s girlfriend.
The two were arrested in about a month. They are aged 32 and 30 respectively. They earlier served time in jail for similar offenses.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
The statistics of the Prosecutor General’s Office show that over 18,000 offenses were committed in Moldova in the first six months of this year. More than half of them are offenses against property.
