Court to issue sentence to Iurie Chirinciuc Aug. 9

The Buiucani local office of the Court of Chisinau on August 9 is to pass judgment in the case in which the former Minister of Transport Iurie Chirinciuc is accused of influence peddling and abuse of power. The hearing where the sentence was to be pronounced was earlier postponed for two times for different reasons.

Chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office Viorel Morari has told IPN that the hearing was set to start at 3:30pm.

Iurie Chirinciuc was placed under judicial control after being in remand detention for two months. At the end of June, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and sent to court the case against the ex-minister.

According to prosecutors, the former minister of transport, together with the heads of two building companies, employed a scheme to illegally obtain money. They exerted pressure on a company that won the tender contests financed by the European Investment Bank to make this concede a part of the workload to affiliated business entities.
