Creation unions join efforts to make radical changes

A number of creation unions of Moldova formed a National Association of Creation Unions whose aim will be to mobilize the institutions and people of culture so as to radically change the state policy on culture, the leaders of the new association said at a news conference on November 2, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Until present, the role that the culture can play in unchaining the mentality and knowledge, in educating free people and in building a mature and responsible society has been ignored. The culture was marginalized and assimilated into the entertainment industry,” said Ghenadie Ciobanu, the president of the Union of Composers and Musicologists. The president of the Writers Union Mihai Cimpoi said that the people of culture during the last eight years have not been heard by the Ministry of Culture. “We want to protect the interests of our culture, the image of our country and the national values by law,” he said. Eugen Sobor, the head of the Union of Filmmakers, stressed that radical reforms are needed. “Reforms have been implemented in many areas, not yet in the field of culture. This area should not be directed in the way in which it was directed by the Communists,” he said. The National Association of Creation Unions will defend the status of the artists, will promote the role of culture in transforming the society, will actively particulate in the reformation of the legal and fiscal framework on arts and culture and will promote the country’s image at the national and international levels, it is said in a statement distributed at the news conference.
