The Resource Center for Human Rights (CReDO) is concerned about the multiplication of the cases of infringement of the freedom of expression in Moldova. The Center notes that these practices run counter to the international standards, the assumed European commitments and the national legislation, IPN reports.
The CReDO reminds that after publishing critical comments about a politician, two bloggers were blocked. Afterward, a young man was held at the police inspectorate for several hours because he staged a protest against the minority government. The Center disapproves of the constraints aimed against the journalists who publicly criticize the government, the blocking of comments on blogs, the holding accountable of a civic activist for uttering public messages in an eccentric form against the prosecution service and the intimidation of civic activists by civil lawsuits for criticizing the management of public enterprises.
The CReDO recommends giving up the practices to hamper the peaceful political and civil demonstrations staged to publicly express the disagreement or an opinion differing from the official one. It calls on all the players from society to unconditionally support the freedom of expression in a peaceful way so as to promote democracy and political pluralism in Moldova.
