Crime rate up over 30%
More than 20,000 offenses have been committed in Moldova since the start of this year, up over 30% from last year. The offenses include mainly road accidents caused by drunken drivers, rapes, swindles, thefts and robberies. The number of drug-related crimes has decreased.
The information was presented in a joint meeting of prosecutors and police commissioners from central Moldova on September 24, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Pantea, the crime rate in Chisinau's Botanica district rose by 59% compared with January-September last year, in Buiucani district – by 53%. As to raions, the crime rate in Stefan Voda increased by 76%, in Anenii Noi and Hancesti – by 75%, in Nisporeni – by 73%, in Criuleni – by 68%.
The first joint meeting of prosecutors and police commissioners was held in Balti on September 21. The next will take place in Cahul on September 30. It will bring together prosecutors and commissioners from southern Moldova.
