The police announced the institution of criminal and administrative proceedings following the protest mounted by veterans two days ago. The General Police Inspectorate said the reports that a person was hospitalized as a result of altercations with the police are not true and are disseminated with the aim of discrediting the police system, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Inspectorate says the police didn’t use force against the protesters, if only gradually during the arrests, after these resorted to destabilization. During the protest, three persons were examined by doctors. “Two persons were taken to the Buiucani Police Inspectorate for examinations, while the third person came later individually. Two of the men were examined and returned to the protest, while the third remains hospitalized following the worsening of a chronic disease from which he suffers, being now out of danger,” runs the press release.
A criminal case was started over attempt to instigate mass disorder, violence and hatred and over blocking of routes. Another case was started over threatening with violence and acts of violence and prevention of the police from maintaining public order and performing their functional duties, while the third case over use of violence and prevention of the Dialogue Group from maintaining public order.
The three administrative cases were started over intentional noncompliance with the legal requests of the police in the line of duty; intentional blocking of ways, and nonobservance of the public health measures during the state of public health emergency by the organizers and participants.
The protest mounted by the “Veterans’ Force” movement on July 16 was marked by altercations between the police and veterans. The police escorted nine protesters to the Buiucani Police Inspectorate, invoking that they protested violently and attacked police officers. PPPDA MP Kiril Moțpan said the police caused serious injuries to the protesters and one of those injured is in the hospital in a serious state. The police intervention generated a wave of criticism among politicians and representatives of civil society, who condemned the taken actions.
