The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office ordered instituting criminal proceedings against the man who took his children to a local pond in Goian village of Chisinau municipality and left them to swim unsupervised and these drowned, IPN reports.

The tragedy happened on the afternoon of July 14, when the boys aged 10 and 11 went to the pond together with their father. After drinking alcohol, the man left his children unsupervised. The bodies were recovered by villagers who saw that the kids were in danger, but could not save them.

A criminal case was started against the father, who was in an advanced state of inebriation when the children drowned. He faces up to four years in jail.
